The range of organic food provided by Argentine includes oils, sugar cane, meat, cereals, oilseeds, spices and herbs, fresh fruit, processed fruits and vegetables, flour, pulses, fruit juices, milk, honey and wine.

The beginnings of organic production in Argentina start in the mid 80′s. In 1992 Argentina had about 4,500 hectares, distributed among 51 establishments dedicated to certified organic production. The offer was limited to certain fruits and oilseeds. In 2009 the establishments are more than 2.000 and the area dedicated to certified organic production exceeds 4 million hectares, 3.097.128 are for livestock production (cattle and sheep) for the production of meat and dairy products and 904.873 are engaged the production of industrial crops, cereals, oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, herbs, teas (tea and yerba mate), honey and wine. The growth of organic production system in Argentina was based on four main factors: agroecological qualities recognized for food production in the Argentine territory, the appropriate regulatory framework for the activity ( in full accordance with the standards of CODEX Alimentarius, FAO/WHO), convinced producers to take forward a sustainable agriculture and finally the technical-professional quality of national certification agencies that signed responsibility contracts with their asian, europeans and americans counterparts and thus were able to open new markets.
In 17 years Argentina has become a leader in the production and export of organic food in the southern hemisphere. To achieve and consolidate this position the companies have modernize their systems, packing and storage of fresh and processed products,and developed an efficient service of logistics export.

Now a days Argentina has the equivalent of the European Union regulation of the EC, and the recognition of Japan (Memorandum of Understanding-MOU). By other hand it has certification ventures with enterprises, in addition to being empowered and controlled by the National Food Safety and Quality Officer (SENASA), have accreditations from the Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program (National Organic Program, NOP) . This has enabled the country to establish itself as a reliable supplier of organic foods, healthy and of high quality.
